SAFE Beacon Award

I attended the SAFE Beacon Award Lecture by Lord Colin Renfew on January 10th.  I heard about it quite through the grapevine but I knew the AIA were having their meeting in Philadelphia so I thought it would be good to go.  The lecture was interesting, the topic of looted antiquities is something archaeologists have been talking about for a long time and it is good that they have come to conclusions and decisions about how they should be dealt with.  It seems like the field is pretty united about this, of course I am a complete outside to archaeology so I probably see more unity than there might be.

In conservation this is still being discussed as well.  I was not at the 2007 AIC Meeting in Richmond, VA but heard about the discussions.  As I am interested in the ethics of conservation I will hopefully study a bit more about it while in school.
