My name is: Rose Cull
However, when I began this blog my name was Rose Daly. Often my maiden name was pronounced Dally instead of Daily, so I thought this blog could be a way to remind the world of the correct pronunciation of Daly, although the blog is not updated daily.
I am an objects conservator and this blog is devoted to my adventures in conservation, my professional website is www.phoenixartconservation.com.
This blog is my work and none of the writings should be taken to represent any of the institutions I work with now, in the past, or in the future. My main interests are:
Objects Conservation - inorganic and modern materials
Preventive Conservation
Sites, Monuments, and other big artworks
Theory, especially issues surrounding the preservation of electronic media
I grew up in Houston, Texas, the fifth of six children. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Art History at the University of Texas at Austin and then went to study Italian culture in Rome one summer. I loved Italy and I went back to work as an intern at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, and then to work the fields of an organic vineyard near Mount Amiata in Southern Tuscany. Farming taught me the most about working, and I was incredibly happy in the fields in Tuscany.
I like working outside and I like working on big projects, I work well in groups, and I like working with arts professionals who are really excited about what they do. It is a great job to be able to touch history.
